The original Rottenburgh flute is made of stained and treated boxwood, has seven middle joints, and plays well at a=415 Hz. A Cocobolo version with a foot register and oil finish is available, but the Cocobolo used is over 50-60 years old and of higher quality than the modern Cocobolo available. The flute can also be made from ebony, granadilla, or boxwood.
